In 2016, Luke Halls was commissioned to do the video design for Richard Wagner’s first masterpiece, Der fliegende Holländer, which was directed by one of the most celebrated stage directors, Kasper Holten.

In the story a Dutch Captain is cursed to sail the seas of the world forever with only one land visit every seven years. The curse can only be broken by the love of a faithful woman. Re-interpreted by the director in this production an urban environment and the the world of the international art trade are underpinned by Wagner’s evocation of the power of lone and the sea.
